1 Who writes and reviews MC Transports' pages
MC Transports is a one-person business, and so is its editorial team. I'm Sean Hamilton, the owner and driver, and I'm both the author and the reviewer of every page. I'd rather say that plainly than invent an editorial board.
The site is designed and built for me by Press Forge and hosted by 365i. Drafting and technical help may be used while a page is prepared, but nothing about my business goes live until I've read it and confirmed it's right.
2 Confirmed facts only
If I haven't confirmed something, it isn't on the site. That rule is why some things you might expect are missing. Here's where things stand today:
-
Prices
Confirmed and published
One price list, confirmed by me. Every price on every page reads from it.
-
Services
Confirmed and published
Only the jobs I do. Recovery and non-runners are left out until I offer them.
-
VAT and weekends
Confirmed and published
Not VAT registered. Weekends add a flat £50.
-
Insurance
Waiting, so not published
No figure or insurer is published until the certificate has been checked.
-
Reviews
Waiting, so not published
None yet. They appear only once real customers leave them.
-
Photos of me and my work
Waiting, so not published
Real photos go up as they are taken. Until then, pictures are illustrations.
-
Opening hours
Waiting, so not published
Not published yet, and never advertised as 24 hours.
When one of these is confirmed, it goes up and this list changes the same day.
3 How prices and drive times are worked out
Every price on the site comes from one price list that I've confirmed, so a change is made once and shows everywhere at the same moment. The full list is on the prices page.
The instant price checker works like this:
- postcodes.io, an open-source UK postcode lookup, turns both postcodes into map positions.
- The local rate is decided by distance from Brewood as the crow flies: both ends within 10 miles is £99, both within 20 is £129.
- Further out, openrouteservice plots the van's whole run, Brewood to the bike, on to its new home and back to Brewood, and the total van miles pick the band.
Routes and drive times use car routing, so a van usually takes a little longer than the times shown. Route data: © openrouteservice by HeiGIT, map data from OpenStreetMap contributors.
4 Sources
When a page explains a rule, I link to the people who make it rather than to someone else's summary: GOV.UK for vehicle paperwork, legislation.gov.uk for consumer law, and the circuit or event organiser for track days and shows. Businesses named on area pages are there because they're real and local. Naming one doesn't mean I work with them, unless the page says so.
5 Photos and illustrations
Some pictures on this site are illustrations, and each one is captioned as an illustration. They set the scene: a bike in a garage, a dealer's forecourt, a grid at a circuit. They never show me, my van or a real job, and they never carry MC Transports' name.
Real photos replace them as I take them. When a picture is of me or my work, it will be a real photograph.
6 Reviews, testimonials and paid placements
MC Transports is new, so there are no reviews on the site yet. When there are, they'll come from Google and nowhere else, and they won't be edited. I don't write testimonials, and I don't invent jobs or customers.
I also run Brewood Removals and Lockerfella. Their reviews belong to them and are never shown as MC Transports reviews.
Nobody pays to appear on this site. There are no sponsored posts, no affiliate links and no paid mentions.
7 Corrections
If you spot something wrong, email info@mctransports.co.uk and tell me which page. I look into every report within 7 days, and fix a confirmed error within 14 days of confirming it.
A correction to a fact, such as a price or a route, is dated in an update log on the page it affects, so you can see what changed and when. Typos are just fixed.
8 Review dates
Every page shows when it was published and when I last reviewed it. The reviewed date only moves when I've actually checked the page and confirmed it's still right, never for a cosmetic change and never to make a page look fresher than it is.
If it's not confirmed, it's not on here.
