Motorcycle transport booking terms

What you can expect from me when I move your motorbike, and what I need from you. Written in plain English, because you should be able to read it in five minutes.

One part of these terms is still to come: my insurance cover details (section 6). Until they're published, ask me before you book and I'll tell you the limit that applies to your job, in writing.

1 Who I am

MC Transports is run by me, Sean Hamilton, as a sole trader. The legal name is Sean Hamilton trading as MC Transports, based in Brewood, Staffordshire. In these terms "I", "me" and "MC Transports" mean Sean Hamilton trading as MC Transports, and "you" means the person who books the job.

You can reach me on 07570 162074 (calls and WhatsApp) or at info@mctransports.co.uk.

2 Quotes and fixed prices

The instant price checker and my quotes price a standard job: a bike that rolls, steers and brakes, normal access at both ends, on a weekday. For a standard job inside my price bands, the price you're given is fixed. It won't go up after you book.

  • Anything unusual, such as a quad, a very large bike or awkward access, I'll confirm with you before you book.
  • Runs over 200 total van miles show "from £399", and I work out the figure by hand from both postcodes.
  • Weekend jobs add a flat £50.
  • I'm not VAT registered, so there's no VAT to add to any price.

Nothing is booked until we've agreed the price and the day, in writing (a message or an email is fine). Every starting price is on the prices page, and you can get a fixed quote from two postcodes.

3 What can change the price after booking

A fixed price stays fixed while the job is the one we agreed. These are the things that make it a different job:

  • Wrong or changed postcodes

If the bike is somewhere else, or it's going somewhere else, the miles change.

  • The bike's condition

If it doesn't roll, steer or brake when I arrive, I may not be able to load it safely.

  • Access

Steps, a narrow lane, a locked compound or a bike buried at the back of a garage that I wasn't told about.

  • Waiting time

If nobody is there with the keys at the agreed time at either end.

  • Extra stops

Picking up or dropping anything off on the way.

If any of these come up, I'll tell you the new price before I do anything about it, and you can say no and cancel instead.

4 What I need from you

  • Keys. The keys at collection, and someone to take them at delivery.
  • Someone at both ends at the agreed time, or a named person who can hand over or receive the bike for you.
  • The right to hand it over. If it isn't your bike, or you're buying it privately, the owner or seller needs to know I'm coming and be happy to release it to me.
  • An honest description. Tell me about anything I should know: damage, a flat tyre, a sticking brake, a modification that affects loading.
  • Loose items off. Luggage, tank bags, sat navs and anything that could fall off or get damaged should come off before I load.
  • Fuel kept low. There's no need to brim it for the journey.
  • Paperwork if asked. I don't need the V5C to move a motorbike, but have any paperwork ready in case the seller, the dealer or I ask to see it.

Bikes I can't move yet: anything that doesn't roll, steer and brake. If yours doesn't, send the details anyway and I'll tell you straight if I can help.

5 Cancelling a booking

If you need to cancel, tell me as soon as you can by phone, WhatsApp or email.

What the law says

For most services booked at a distance (online, by phone or by message) or away from a trader's premises, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give you a right to cancel within 14 days of booking, without giving a reason.

There's an exception that covers most of my work. Regulation 28(1)(h) says that right doesn't apply to "transport of goods" where the contract "provides for a specific date or period of performance". A motorbike collection booked for a set day falls inside that exception.

Where a booking has no set date, the 14-day right does apply. If you ask me to do the job inside those 14 days and then cancel partway through, you pay a fair share for what's been done (regulation 36). Once the job is finished, the right to cancel ends.

My cancellation rule

Cancel before I set off for the collection and there's nothing to pay. Once I've set off, you cover the miles I've already driven, and I'll tell you the figure before you're charged anything.

If I have to cancel, for example because I'm ill or can't get there safely, I'll tell you as soon as I know and we'll agree a new day. If that doesn't suit you, you won't pay anything.

6 Liability and insurance

I'll carry out every job with reasonable care and skill, which is what the Consumer Rights Act 2015 expects of any service. Nothing in these terms limits my liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence (section 65).

Insurance cover details will be published here once they're confirmed. Until then, ask me before you book and I'll tell you the limit that applies to your job.

Please look over the bike with me at collection and at delivery, and tell me about any damage straight away, before I leave. It's far easier to sort out a problem that both of us have seen.

7 Payment

Payment is by bank transfer, ideally before the collection day. If we agree it beforehand, you can pay when the bike is delivered instead. I'll send the bank details with the confirmed price in writing.

The agreed price is what you pay, with no VAT on top.

8 Complaints

If something isn't right, tell me first, by phone, WhatsApp or email. I'm the only person here, so it comes straight to me and I'll look into it myself.

If we can't sort it out between us, the Citizens Advice consumer service gives free, independent advice on your rights.

9 The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales deal with any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.

The version of these terms on this page on the day you book is the one that applies to your booking. Nothing here takes away your legal rights as a consumer.

10 Booking questions

Is the online motorcycle transport price fixed?

Yes, for a standard weekday job inside the price bands: a bike that rolls, steers and brakes, with normal access at both ends. Runs over 200 total van miles show a from price and Sean confirms the figure by hand.

Can the price change after I book?

Only if the job turns out different from the booking, for example a wrong postcode, a bike that does not roll, steer or brake, access problems, waiting time or an extra stop. Sean tells you the new price first, and you can cancel instead.

Do weekend motorbike collections cost more?

Yes. Weekend jobs add a flat £50 to the price.

Do you charge VAT?

No. MC Transports is not VAT registered, so there is no VAT to add to any price.

Can I cancel a motorcycle transport booking?

Yes. Tell Sean as soon as you can. The law's 14-day cancellation right does not cover transport booked for a specific date, so Sean's own rule applies: cancel before he sets off for the collection and there is nothing to pay; once he has set off, you cover the miles already driven.

How do I pay for motorcycle transport?

By bank transfer, ideally before the collection day. If you agree it with Sean beforehand, you can pay when the bike is delivered.

Do I need the V5C to have my motorbike moved?

No, the V5C is not needed for the transport itself. Have any paperwork ready in case the seller, the dealer or Sean asks to see it at either end.
